Aspiration – Manufacturing Innovation District
In the works since 2014, the vision for AMICSTL was inspired by the Regional Advanced Manufacturing Partnership and identified as a priority in the 2021 STL 2030 Jobs Plan with the hopes that it would serve as an anchor for a broader manufacturing innovation district.
OpportunitIES
This led to the inception of AMICSTL, aimed at catalyzing innovation, empowering manufacturers, and fostering regional economic growth. AMICSTL will serve as the regional workforce integrator cultivating the growth of a highly skilled advanced manufacturing workforce through strategic partnerships with local colleges, technical schools and programs, and workforce development organizations. The AMICSTL state-of-the-art facility will be an epicenter for cost-effective research and development leveraging the tremendous research and subject matter expertise across the St. Louis Metro area.
Collaborating with the St. Louis Development Corporation, neighborhood groups, community and civic organizations, and others, AMICSTL will actively partner to empower and revitalize historically marginalized neighborhoods in North St. Louis City. Our efforts will support emerging entrepreneurs, advance cutting-edge technologies, and nurture the formation of new companies and startups.
AMICSTL Will be “of” the North St. Louis City Community
AMICSTL is committed to building and operating within the North St. Louis City community and ongoing and proactive engagement with residents. It aligns with the North Central Plan by creating a cohesive, thriving, and inclusive community that prioritizes opportunities for building individual, family, and community wealth while championing safety within the neighborhood.
Nearby, the St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC) will develop The Monarch on MLK, a workforce and training campus for manufacturing and other high-paying, in-demand careers at the former Killark Electric site. The campus is central to the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District, strategically located between the Next NGA West Campus and the six-neighborhood Project Connect Area to the east, with AMICSTL and Ranken Technical College to the west. This positioning integrates St. Louis’ industrial heritage with modern inclusive opportunities, aiming to establish the city as a regional hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation.
How AMICSTL Will Contribute to the Community:
By building a resilient, sustainable, and healthy building and campus to serve as an anchor in the community
Increasing STEM educational opportunities through partners and direct programming for all ages at AMICSTL
By providing a community makerspace to see, touch, and engage with technology such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and more to spur interest in and to help the startup community
Ensuring access to training, apprenticeship, and internship programs and employment opportunities in advanced manufacturing
