Each of us leads very different companies in the St. Louis bi-state region, and each of us are excited about the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Center St. Louis (AMICSTL).
AMICSTL was founded with one mission: create a non-profit innovation hub in the St. Louis metro that will revolutionize advanced manufacturing and elevate the economic, educational, and community visibility and strength of the entire region. We know that AMICSTL will contribute to writing the next chapter of St. Louis’ economic history.
The Boeing Company is proud to be the inaugural industry donor to AMICSTL. We know, based on experience, that AMICSTL will help accelerate the entire Midwest, specifically St. Louis, as a technology and innovation hub for the entire advanced manufacturing industry. While AMICSTL will be the leader of one of the first advanced manufacturing innovation districts in the United States, it is inspired by the 25-plus year success of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Sheffield, UK. Boeing is one of the more than 1000 companies a year that has received manufacturing innovation and technology support from AMRC in the UK. It is important to note that almost half of the companies AMRC assists with are small and medium companies. This capability is needed domestically, and what better place than right here in St. Louis.
HY-Company is an AMICSTL partner because technological innovation is a driver in the sectors in which we work, but we know that applied technological innovation doesn’t occur without a skilled workforce. For our company and other manufacturers, it is imperative there is a focus on filling the estimated 4 million manufacturing jobs that will be needed throughout the St. Louis region and country by 2030. It is equally imperative that the workforce be steeped in the latest technologies driving industry innovation. AMICSTL will be a convener and connector between workforce providers and manufacturers that will help ensure a high quality and diverse pipeline trained in cutting-edge and traditional skills to ensure employers and employees grow.
